Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!
I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks…
Let’s get started!
Elizabeth: Hi Dr Cabral, a food product I purchased (Flaxseed, Sunflower, Pumpkin, Sesame Seeds & Goji Berries Mix) was recently recalled in November due to containing hazardous chemicals. Upon a google search, I found flaxseed warnings about cyanide danger. It later emerged, the recall was actually due to FSA warning there was an issue throughout Europe relating to a pesticide called Ethylene oxide being found in batches of organic sesame seeds coming from India. I am surprised about the flaxseed cyanide connection but also surprised about the pesticide use on organic farming. I haven't been using either flaxseed or sesame seed since but I enjoy both and would like to enjoy both again. Are these seeds best to avoid for now, as I'm now confused what can be trusted? Thank you and appreciate all you do
Michael: Hi Dr. Cabral, which probiotic do you recommend for mold toxicity? The mold toxicity has impacted my digestive system. I feel like I’m not breaking down my food properly and I’m more constipated.
Anonymous: Hi Doc! I’m all into your concept of using the kind of medicine that will help your client the most. I’m fascinated of the Osteopathic medicine philosophy. A.T Still was the founder of the Osteopathic Medicine and he was a very interesting man. I think osteopathy has the same philosophy as functional medicine, Ayurveda etc. What do you think about osteopathy and do you think it’s possible to combine it with IHP? I’m reading “toward a psychology of being- maslow” at the moment. When I read about the self-actualization person I always think about you. You have transformed me to a better human being. Thanks for everything.
Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral. I have been working on overcoming HPA Axis dysfunction and have been without a cycle post birth control for 2 years. My naturopathic practitioner put me on FEMRebalance by Vitanica and Adrenal Response Non Glandular by Innate. After getting hormone blood-work done and finding out I have very low hormones all together I went to an endocrinologist. They told me to stop taking those supplements and to "avoid ALL adrenal gland extracts - because these contain active hormone that tell your pituitary gland not to make ACTH and leads to atrophy of the adrenal gland cortex. Avoid licorice root because it inhibits an enzyme in the kidney that breaks down cortisol to cortisone." How can this be true and so many natural doctors recommend these things. Where is the disconnect? I am not asking for medical advice but in your experience who is right? Thanks again!
Anonymous: Hi Dr CabralI am 16 and have been dealing with pimples for the last 5 years now. I don’t have severe acne, but i have a few pimples scattered around my entire face (a few on my forehead, cheeks and chin area), it gets worse on some days and sometimes its not that much, but there are always some pimples, and my face is never completely pimple clear. I’ve tried a lot of spot treatments and home remedies, but it doesn’t take all my pimples away completely. What should i do? I know thats its not severe, but i just want a complete clear and smooth skin. I also have blemishes, so even when there are not that much pimples on my face i still have the blemishes that are permanently there, some are even there for years! I don’t follow any specific diet, but I’m trying to restrict sugar, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference to my skin. Please help, i would sincerely appreciate any advice.Thank you.
Ryan: Hello, I'm regularly getting close to 3 hours of deep sleep according to my Oura ring which as you can imagine I'm pretty happy about. However my REM sleep seems to struggle, never really getting close to that 2 hour mark and more often maxing out at 90 mins or so. I know both stages have different restorative functions but can extra deep sleep make up for a lack of REM sleep in your experience or opinion? Also, as is often cited, deep sleep typically occurs from 10pm-2am. My current bed time is around 11:45pm, and yet I'm still crushing it on the deep sleep. Not really a question, just an interesting observation I guess. FYI I take Mg Glycinate, Glycine and fish oil as my evening supplements.
Kristin: Hi Dr. Cabral, Your podcasts have been so informative and I have learned so much about my health. I have been having issues with my sleep the past few months. I had the Thyroid Adrenal Hormone test done a few months ago and my cortisol was high in the morning and at night, and lower during the day. I also had very high estrogen and low progesterone. Working with my IHP I have been taking the Estrogen Balance and Progestomend, as well as Adrenal Soothe, Cal Mag, B-Complex, Zinc and other supplements. The Progestomend seems to bother my stomach so I’ve been taking a bit of a lower dose than recommended. In addition I have been using the Sleep Support. I fall asleep at night very easily with no problem between 10:00pm and 11:00pm, however I always wake up between 3:30 and 4:30 am and cannot go back to sleep unless I take some melatonin, which leaves me feeling groggy the next morning if I take it at that time. Any suggestions? I’m working on completely cutting our caffeine as well, but never have it after about 2:00pm or so anyway. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I also have the Oura Ring and never meet my REM goal. Thanks so much for all you do!
