Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows!

This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track!

Check out today's questions:

Barbara: What is the best product to purchase to start getting healthy overall?

Nan: Hi Dr.Cabral, Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions! I have been using elimination diets to figure out what was causing my digestive and hormonal issues. I realized that i am very sensitive to lectins and salicylates. I do not want to stay on an elimination diet for too long to the detriment of my nutrition but have been unable to find good multivitamin and minerals and the Equilife ones do not ship to my country. I am therefore trying to diversify my diet however i can. I can now eat lectins foods that have been soaked and pressure cooked. I can also have a few histamine foods when i intermittent fast. However, i have been unable to reintroduce salicylates. I have been doing epsom salt baths and once in a while i can have a medium salicylate food but only like once a week. I have tested and I do not have any underlying digestive issues like SIBO or bacterial imbalance. What can i do to be able to reintroduce salicylates? Your episode on salicylates was incredibly insightful but i am unsure what to do after the low salicylate diet. How long do i have to stay on it? Ps: my mother has always had salicylate issues so maybe there is a genetic component behind my issue processing/detoxing salicylates? Looking forward to your input! Thank you so much!

Danny: Hi Dr. Carbral! I'm a 4th yr medical student and aspiring functional medicine doctor, I have learned so much from your podcast and love tuning in everyday! In short: I have 4 homozygous polymorphisms of COMT, for which (if I'm not mistaken) I should supplement hydroxy B12 and avoid methyl B12 & methyl folate. I also have a heterozygous polymorphism of MTHFR (C677T) for which I should take methyl B12 & methyl folate. It seems like what is therapeutic for one problem is toxic for the other and vice versa. Hence my question, what should I do? Will supplementing with both hydroxy and methyl B12 'counteract' each other like 2 horses running in opposite directions? I also recently did your organic acids test and had a follow up call with Caitlin, which was really helpful! On my OAT, my quinolinic/serotonin ratio was high (9.0), and we concluded that this was due to low serotonin (.08) as my quinolinic level was .72. I know MTHFR is involved in the synthesis of serotonin (via tryptophan), could the lower serotonin level be due to this MTHFR mutation? I know this is pretty detailed stuff but I'm hope there are other ppl out there with both COMT and MTHFR polymorphisms who have had similar questions. Really appreciate you taking time to do these house calls and for the awesome podcast! Best, Danny

Lorena: Working with a male client that is a Pitta and is 32. Saliva test showed normal DHEA, progesterone & testosterone as well as adrenal phase 3. However, his estrogen was significantly high. It’s not from adipose tissue because he’s quite fit. Pretty much plant-based (all organic) with the occasional grass-fed beef, no exposure to xenoestrogens as all cleaning products as well as personal products are 100% natural. Eats a lot of cruciferous veg everyday (this should have helped with estrogen detoxification). He does eat organic tofu twice a week so I wonder whether it would be that? I read somewhere that dietary intake wouldn’t raise estrogen levels so much… I’m just so confused right now. He is prone to hair loss so not sure whether there's a conversion issue from testosterone to estrogen.

Vic: Hi Dr Cabral, First of all, love your work. I have had reoccurring UTIs for about 1.5 years. I have completed the CBO protocol, finisher and 2 x 7 day detoxes starting about a year ago which has helped with a lot of issues that I had found relief from no where else, so a big thank you for that. However I still have had to do your UTI protocol nearly constantly. I have relief when on the protocol but symptoms a few days after stopping. I was wondering if there were any long term detrimental effects of doing this protocol constantly or having this issue for so long? I have tried all the basic lifestyle tips and listened to your previous UTI podcasts but can’t seem to find a story quite like mine. I don’t take antibiotics anymore and have had countless confirmed culture tests that show an infection. Unfortunately I’m on a tight budget at the moment so most testing and treatment I cannot afford at this time, so any general advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
