Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!

I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks…

Let’s get started!

Zoe: Hi dr. Cabral, I’m very curious about your opinion on the differences in workout and nutrition strategies between men and women. Do you think men and women need to work out significantly differently? And if so - what do you feel works best for each? And I would love to know what you think about macronutrient intake. Do you think men and women need the same ratio of fats, carbs and protein or is there difference in how our body utilizes it and how we burn it? I appreciate your opinion so much, and can’t wait to hear your thoughts about this! Thanks s million! Zoe.

Caitie: Hi Dr. Cabral! Thank you for all that you do, listening to your podcast and reading the rain barrel effect has impacted my life greatly for the better! I’m writing you about My 55 year old mother. She seems to be starting menopause. She goes from freezing cold to a hot flash with lightheadedness seemingly randomly. The hotflashes seem to be worsened by stress. The hotflashes are almost unbearable and keep her up most nights. Her last period was over 90 days ago. She started black cohosh with no help. She’s been talking ashwaganda for 6 months and that has help substainally with brain fog and mood balance until as of Recent. Do you have any recommendations as to what types of things might help her symptoms during this time? Or do you think that this could be something other than menopause contributing to this? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Anonymous: Hello Doctor Cabral, I was hoping you could address binge eating disorder in a more objective way in terms of explaining why it happens in certain people and if this is a brain-based evolutionary response or the result of an overall imbalance in the body. I have completed the 21-day detox, the CBO protocol, and several 7 day detoxes. During all protocols, I felt amazing during the first couple weeks as I modeled the 3 meals a day habit and daily 12 hour fast, but then I began to develop an intense desire for foods not on the lists during the 2-3rd weeks. This was not like a typical craving for sugary, starchy, or processed foods, but almost a primal desire to binge on any kind of food (nuts, nut butters, hommus). This has never happened to me before these protocols, but after reading about binge eating disorder, it lead me to question if the food restrictions in the detox or CBO protocol can unintentionally trigger binge eating in some people that have this genetic tendency. I know you operate under the idea that this lifestyle "allows" you to eat healthy foods rather than "restrict" unhealthy ones, and you don't believe in counting calories or complete restriction with the use of flex meals. However, for me on all occasions, this behavior was very immediate and was not something I felt like I could change my mindset about or talk myself out of, for it felt like my brain was convincing me that it was a survival necessity to binge.

Chris: Hello, So I'm a 20 year old male and have been suffering with what I think is some type of fungal overgrowth in my intestines for a couple years. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease when I was 17, and I took a month of doxycline, two months of monocycle, and two months of tindamax. Ever since I took the minocycline I have felt completely out of it. It feels like I am living in a dream. I have terrible fatigue, ZERO libido, joint pain, and many food intolerances that I never had before in life. I have tried every candida diet, enzyme, and herbal supplement possible, and am beginning to lose hope. Nothing is giving me any relief at all. I took a neurotransmitter test and both my serotonin and dopamine are off the charts low. Also, I noticed that my symptoms get much worse when I eat fermented foods like milk kefir. I was wondering if you think that you would be able to help my condition. Thank you, Chris

Amelie: Hi Dr Cabral -Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge.35 year-old female here. I was recently diagnosed with localized scleroderma in the hands (mostly) and feet.I ran a comprehensive blood panel test (thyroid, blood, electrolytes, DHEA, minerals etc) everything came normal except a very low total T3 (60 over a 76-181 ng/dL range) and a very high PTH (84 over a 14-64pg/mL range).I have had Raynauld (resulting from scleroderma) for 18 years and didn't know the actual underlying issue (at least seeing the symptoms over the last 6 years) was scleroderma. So basically, calcinosis of the connective tissue.I have very tight swollen and painful fingers. My hands become numb and tingling with a burning (like fire) feeling when I sleep. Excrutiatingly painful. Not sure if it is the side effects of formation of calcium crystals in my hands. After lots of reading, I started supplementing with D3/K2. Also, I am trying to eliminate as much greens and bets and other oxalate-forming foods since Is suspect they aggravate my condition.Any thought? Recommendations on what to do or start from? Note: the cause has been linked to extreme endurance sports (running, cycling, triathlons) for the last 19 years that affected my thyroids, and two bouts of anorexia 18 and 15 years ago (with 12 years of amenorrhea).Thank you so much for anything you can help with.

Thank you for tuning into this weekend’s Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right!
