There are obviously many reasons why someone may not be recovering or getting well after suffering from a prolonged health issue or diagnosed dis-ease...

But my job as a Functional Medicine doctor is to look deeper into the true root causes that are holding someone back from living the vibrant, happy & healthy life they were born to live...

After working with thousands of people what I can tell you is that although many people I see in my practice are doing a lot of things correctly, they are doing them out of order or in piece-meal...

Tune into today's #CabralConcept 361 to find out the real reason why most people don't get well again and how to save yourself or loved ones from the same fate - Enjoy the show!

I don't know if you've ever had to suffer any hardship or overcome any health issues in your life, but what I can say is that eventually the ebb & flow of life catches up with all of us...

This can come in the form of a sick parent, auto-immune issues, disease, weight issues, or feeling depressed...

The real problem is that most of us believe that the issues we suffer from our completely unique to us and that no one knows what we're going through...

This can then lead to an even deeper state of frustration, anger, anxiety, and hopelessness...

There is an answer though, and it comes in the form of how you choose to frame your current situation and in the choices you make when looking for solutions to your problems...

Tune into today's #CabralConcept 360 for the advice I discovered, which enabled me to overcome all odds and become well again - Enjoy the show!

Welcome back to our 2nd House Call of the weekend where I answer your questions on all things wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging!

Here are today's Q&A's:

Deborah: I am interested in your weight loss testing kit. I am currently on HRT. How long would I need to stop HRT before I take the test to find out what my true levels are? Thanks in advance, Deborah

Nadim: I am sure you asked this question all the time, but is it possible to heal disc herniations? There is a lot of contradictory information on this subject and I really do not know what to believe. More specifically I have a large central posterior disc herniation between L4/L5 that originally resulted in significant referred pain in my feet. I have had the injury for about 3 years, but more recently the pain has improved since returning to the gym, however, I do not know if I am doing the right things, please advise. My gym routine involves back extensions (weighted), pull ups and kettle bell squats with my feet very close to a wall to ensure proper form. I also occasionally do some deadlifting (60kg). I have also increased the amount of water I consume and supplement with omega 3, vegetal silica, Xtend Life total balance multi vitamins, and Bio Kult probiotics. What advice can you give to help further improve my situation or heal my disc injury? Exercise, nutrition, sleeping position and type of bed? Finally, it is worth mentioning that although my injury seems to have improved to the point that I now only get a little referred pain intermittently during the day, I always seem to have some when getting out of bed in a morning. I assume this is because I can’t control my posture when sleeping?

Hayley: Hi Dr. Cabral! My question is in regards to Vitamin C. I've heard that Sodium Ascorbate is a better form of vitamin C to take than Ascorbic Acid. Is this true? Sodium Ascorbate is quite a bit more expensive, so I'm hoping it isn't! Thank you!

Bryn: Lyme Disease Dr. Cabral - Can't say enough how much the information you put out each day has helped me. Even if the topic isn't something I am specifically dealing with - I am fascinated and interested in learning as much as I can. I really do believe you are providing a service that can help so many people. I recommend you to whomever I can.....but I think it is going to take a lot of work to break down the misinformation that has plagued us for years from the various food and supplement companies and media. Please keep up your amazing contribution to society. ***My Question is for a friend's husband who is suffering from Lyme Disease. He has apparently tried everything available to him, but here in Canada Lyme Disease is not really regarded as a true health issue, unlike in the US where it's my understanding that it is. What is your recommendation for someone suffering from Lyme?? Thank you!

I hope you enjoyed today's Q&A and all the tips added in along the way!

The weekend edition of the #CabralConcept HouseCall is back!

Today we have 3 amazing questions from the community, so without further ado let's get right into them!

Mel: Hi Dr C! (I'm trying this again hopefully it reaches you)! Juat wanted your tips for pregnant diet and exercise. Lots of conflicting message out there. For example what do you think about probiotics, cod liver oil, preg supplements, greens powders, smoothies, iron, protein ... to name a few. Any wisdom is appreciated. PS. Your work rocks. Thank you :)

MN: Greetings! Thank you for all you do. I've struggled with Bacterial Vaginosis for at least 6 years. I've been pregnant, but it was ectopic. I have also been told after an exam that I have non-cancerous, abnormal cells on my cervix. About 6 days after intercourse (condoms and all) my vaginal flora changes and I get symptoms. No odor, just a change in discharge. Have you been able to cure anyone? Most ladies who suffer from this have only found temporary relief. Any insights would be awesome.

Caitriona: Hi Dr Cabral, I have just recently found your podcast and I really enjoy listening to it. It's to hear such a variety of topics and great information on a daily podcast. I suffer from rosacea on my nose . It can be quite red and ugly looking at times. It was fine for years but has flared up quite badly a few months ago. My diet is healthy, I am hydrated, I have lots of veg, lots of green leafy green veg, good quality protein and gluten free. Is there any natural treatment available to help this condition apart from having to take antibiotics. Do you know of any suplements or food regimen that might help improve it in any way. I would appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thank you. And thanks for all the advice given so freely on your show. Regards, Caitriona ( listening from Ireland)

Thank you for tuning in and be sure to check back tomorrow for another 4 new question and answer session!

One of the main goals of exercise, stretching, and strength training should be to keep your body in balance by combating the poor posture we are all forced into by staying seated for so long...

Another major component of getting your body moving is to better oxygenate your cells in order for you to boost your mood, energy, and hormones...

The amazing fact is that no matter what you're currently doing (or not doing) for exercise, by adding in a specific 1-minute 12 movement sequence every day you will enjoy improved health, well-being, metabolism, pain-reduction, energy, and so much more - Enjoy the show!

The 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend is here!

Today, we have some amazing community questions that are completely different from yesterday's show...

Check them out now and be sure to tune in for the answers!

Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have a couple issues that I'm struggling with: hair loss and cystic acne/congested skin. I'm a woman in my 40's and have been seeing a functional medicine doctor for several years. She helped me diagnose sibo and candida overgrowth, which were causing my digestive issues. I also have low ferritin and slightly low testosterone and DHEA. I now have the digestive issues under control; however, I'm still struggling with acne and hair loss. I had great results with my skin clearing up and normalizing (less oily) while on spironolactone but my doctor wanted me to go off it back when we were still diagnosing my issues. What are your thoughts on the use of spironolactone? Is it safe to take? I hate the idea of taking it but I hate my skin even more right now. I've also heard spironolactone can help with hair loss. I'm currently taking saw palmetto and if that doesn't help with the hair loss then she may have me try DHEA supplements too but said there can be some risk in that if we don't get the dosage just right. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Andrea: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have suffered from digestive-based issues as long as I can remember. When I was a child I remember being hospitalized due to chronic constipation because I couldn't even walk! From there, I have had bouts of both constipation and diarrhea that last for years at a time. For the past 4 and a half years I have dealt with chronic constipation - I can easily go 5 days without a bowel movement, which is extremely distracting because I have a lot of bloating, distention and sharp pain. I found a functional medicine practitioner who ran some tests to discover I am slightly sensitive to casein, whey, egg whites and wheat, so I have since removed those foods. My thyroid panel looked fine despite my morning body temperature being low for years. A stool test revealed I had a parasitic infection (Giardia) which we treated, and after running the test again after treatment, he discovered I had low SigA and H, Pylori. He put me on a treatment plan of adaptogenic herbs to manage stress and L-glutamine to build up my intestinal lining, but we did not address the H. Pylori. He did also mention candida being present (which makes sense because I have recurring vaginal yeast infections), which we did not address either. My symptoms have not reduced, and I still have pain and discomfort and fullness in the bowels after eating. I have survived the past few years with many tears, digestive enzymes before meals, senna tea (almost every night, which I know is not good for me) and very high doses of magnesium citrate to produce regular bowel movements (which I know is throwing off the balance of my body and is potentially very dangerous). I eat a mostly plant-based diet, tons of vegetables, chew my food well, drink 3 L of water every day, live an active lifestyle (HIIT workouts mostly) avoid gluten, now avoid sugar and alcohol, and do "all the right things" including trying my best to get my stress in check. Dr. Cabral, what do you recommend I do next? I lack the money to keep paying for tests and supplements that yield no results. I just want to be sure I am spending in the right direction. I am committed to my recovery and follow every plan correctly; I just cant figure out what I am doing wrong. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my truncated story and answer my question. I love your podcast; I listen every morning and can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with us all. Be well, Andrea First I want to say thank you for sharing your podcast and all of the guidance you have given to me and so many others. I cannot tell you how much I truly appreciate it.

Lindsey: Message: Hi Stephen Just wondering how much I should change my trainers (sneakers) if following a mixture of residence/ interval training 6 days a week as suggested by yourself ! I often get pain at the heel/ bottom of the foot on one side and I'm wondering if it's because of the shoes. I have about 10 pairs I rotate. X

Mari: Dr. Cabral, Several months ago my 9 year-old daughter was tested for food sensitivities via Igg test. She was found to be mildly allergic to gluten, dairy and eggs, which we immediately eliminated from her diet and all her GI symptoms went away. Huge relief! However, we also had our 3 year old son tested, although he had no GI, behavioral or other issues, we simply wanted to make sure he has no sensitivities like his sister's. To our shock his gluten, gliadin, dairy, eggs levels were off the chart, with mild citrus and almonds/cashews thrown in. Right away we eliminated all the culprits from his diet and surprisingly, he now has some skin irritation and often some mild GI symptoms, although it has been 3 months since we eliminated all the offending foods... Could it be that he is still sensitive to something that Igg test did not catch and would you recommend a better test (ALCAT ?) or repeat the same Igg test in a few months? I am really at loss, since we eat organic, non GMO foods and I feel like he was doing so much better before the initial test. Thank you for your help!

I hope you enjoyed the Q&A and all the tips along the way!

Hello and welcome back to our first #HouseCall of the weekend!

We had some great entires over the past week or two from the community and here are today's questions:

Gina: Hello. I am vegan and I need to get a B12 supplement. I understand that methylcobalamin is better than cyanocobalamin and oral or sublingual is better than a pill. I found a liquid supplement online from a company called Global Healing that is 80% methyl and 20% adenosylcobalamin. Does this seem good to take or does Dr. Cabral recommend a better brand? Thank you so much.

Patty: Hello Dr Cabral I have been listening to your podcast for about 4 months now and I just love them. Thank you so much for all your helpful information, I really love listening to you and have learned so much. I know that you think it's very important for everyone to get enough vitamin D all year round to prevent serious health issues. And I believe so as well, but I have recently heard that if your are supplementing vitamin D that you must also be taking vitamin K2 or else you will be at a much higher risk for osteoporosis and heart disease. Is this true? What are your thoughts on this? Thank you.

Michelle: Hello again Dr. Cabral! Once again, thanks a million for ALL of your amazing information on your podcast and Instagram posts! My question for you today has to do with my monthly cycle. I am almost 47, probably in peri menopause, eat healthy and exercise regularly. About every 4th or 5th cycle, the first day of my cycle literally about takes me out--migraine, vomiting, horrible cramps, diarrhea. Why is this happening and is there something I can do or stop doing to help it? I have ordered and am waiting to receive your tissue mineral analysis test to start seeing what may be off. Obviously there may be some more testing to do. I also put your daily detox powder in my smoothie every morning. Thanks again, Michelle

Thank you for tuning in and be sure to come back tomorrow for another brand new community Q&A!

We seem to live in a world where we must force ourselves to fit into a one size fits all approach preached by the media and "experts..."

This makes cook-cutter programs and advice obsolete and frustrating for those following the advice, but not getting the results they deserve...

Our 2nd #HouseCall of the weekend is here!

And here are today's community questions & answers:

Lindsey: Hi Stephen, I have been listening for a while and following on your Instagram page (which I like to recommend to all my followers too) for a while now. I am quite worried about my mum at the moment who was put on methotrexate a few years ago as her psoriasis and arthritis was so bad. (She has had it since being a teenager and is now 64) At the moment she has no immunity, she catches everything; colds, chest infections, sickness bugs etc and I don't think I've seen her well in a while. She is scared to come off this immune suppressor due to the pain/ discomfort that will come back but she currently hasn't go any quality of life anyway? How can you help her all the way from the UK? I've bought and done your detox etc so I'm aware of the products in your store but I'm not sure if you could help her here in the U.K with tests etc as you need blood turnarounds quickly etc. Thanks and keep up the good work Lindsey

Stacey: Hi, just wondering if you can do a podcast on dandruff, itchy, oily scalp and the root causes behind it. Solutions to heal! Thanks

"Mel from Australia" and "MN" your question did not come through... Please resubmit!

Shahna: Love the podcast and your approach and comprehensive explanations to health. The podcast is a daily must. Instagram is fabulous, too. Thank you! Now the question... My husband is 51 years old and has hardening of the skin on his toes, especially the pinky toe and hardening of the nails. To describe the affected nails they look clawlike and come to a point. He used to be an executive chef before our marriage of four years and indulged in food and drink along with his work, worked long hours on his feet and basically wore himself out for many years. He switched to an outdoor job approximately 15 years ago and thought the hardening occurred due to wearing boots. He suffered from gout like symptoms a few months ago and has agreed to a vegetarian diet for the majority of his diet. He is not overweight, maybe a bit of extra weight in his stomach. FYI I have purchased your detox program for both of us. He has the option of one or two weeks. He isn't taking a vitamin or supplement currently, but I did order for him your daily activated multi vitamin and will include your generous vitamin d with it. Please advise. Many, many heartfelt thanks. I am spreading the word. Thank you.

I hope you enjoyed the Q&A and all the tips along the way!

Jan 14, 2017

The first Cabral #HouseCall of the weekend is here and we have quite a show for today!

The questions are amazing, as always, and hopefully I did each one justice... Check out today's community questions:

Kate: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have been working with a naturalpath for several years to help restore hormone balance (I'm a 32 yr. old female with severe estrogen dominance symptoms!). We have tried so many different things like, healing adrenals, boosting thyroid, anti-inflammatory plant based diet, etc. But my progesterone is still very low. Do you recommend BHRT? My doc wants to put me on it for a few months on days 11-28 of my cycle and see if she can "jumpstart" production? There is a lot of conflicting info when it comes to BHRT! Thoughts?

Rachna: Good morning I am interested in having the Weight Loss test done however, can you confirm if this test can be done for someone that lives in Canada? Thank you!

Chelsea: I have to have a CT scan, what are some things I can do to help offset the radiation in my system? Are there any detox products you recommend or any major uptick in certain foods? Will spending extra time doing grounding work help? What about an Epsom soak or infared sauna? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question and thank you for your podcast, I appreciate the information you share.

Laura: Hi . Do you work with patients out of state by phone?

Bonnie: Hi Dr. Cabral, Can you please talk about iodine supplementation and if it is necessary? I have used sea salt for years and it does not contain iodine. I have read about the need for iodine supplementation in the absence of iodized salt, but the more I read, the more I am confused about how much to take, or if I even need it. Details about me, if needed: I am 38 years old, 5'7" and 114 pounds. I am healthy mother of 3 children, but have been struggling to balance some issues I believe are hormone related (hairloss/libido/mood/energy). My annual bloodwork shows my thyroid to be within normal range according to my physician (T3: 30.%, T4: 7.4 UG/DL, T7: 2.19, TSH: .6 UIU/ML), low vitamin D (currently 58 after supplementing 4000iu daily for one year. Prior to starting supplement was 21). My diet has been primarily Paleo for the past 5 years. I am working at transitioning to less meat and adding in limited grains and legumes. I am currently on day 4 of your 7 day detox and just purchased the daily support and greens powder, I plan to try starting my day this way following my detox. Despite years of attempting to get what I need from food. I need something that works! Thank you for your podcasts, I have really enjoyed them! Bonnie

I hoped you enjoyed the show and I can't wait to bring you Part 2 tomorrow - I'll talk with you then!

We're back with our 2nd HouseCall of the weekend!

Here are today's community questions:

Jeni: Hi Dr Cabral! I have a question regarding two of my boys. One is sixteen years old, the other is 7. Both suffer from super dry, cracked hands. They play with basketballs and footballs regularly, which seems to make their fingers spit and crack even more. It is extremely painful for them. Is there anything I can try that is natural, or anything I should be looking out for? We have tried them sleeping with cotton gloves with different things on their hands. That doesn't seem to help at all. Their doctors have prescribed steroid cream which I am against, but, again have tried. That didn't even touch the problem so after two weeks we stopped that. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Deb: Over the years I have exercised, danced and ran up and down stairs caring for my family. I have gardened or purchased most of our plant based foods from local farms. But now at age 63, I have experienced trouble with my right knee for about 3 years which flairs up whenever I used the steps, stand to long washing dishes or sit to long watching TV. When I get up in the morning so my knee hasn't been supporting weight, all is well until I use the steps. I am now about 30 lbs over weight and know that if I could lose the extra weight it will probably help but am limited as to what I can do. What could you suggest?

Ray S: I saw that you are giving away free bottles of vitamin this month and i know I should be taking it. Could you tell much how much though? Does it matter my age or weight? Does it matter what kind?

Andrew C: Thank you for all you do. I’m a long time listener, but just writing in for the first time… My question is that I am a profuse sweater and can’t seem to control it. I sweat through my shirt everyday and if I exercise I leave a pool of sweat wherever I am. Is this genetic and can I do anything about it? Thanks for your help!

Thank you for submitting your questions this week and I hope you enjoyed the Q&A and all the tips along the way!
